She’s an icon with the individuals for whom we design Frontline, and everybody knows she’d never settle for less than the best.” Laurieann Gibson’s endorsement of Frontline is a natural fit, bringing together one of the finest creators and executors in the sphere of performance with her equivalent in the world of dancewear design and manufacture. Gibson trained at Alvin Ailey, and first put this rigorous training to full use in hip hop when she became director of choreography for Motown and Bad Boy Records. When there, she began to push hip hop dance to new levels, going on to work with stars such as Beyoncé, Michael Jackson, Alicia Keys, the Dixie Chicks and Clay Aiken, and with directors such as Spike Lee and Matthew Rolston. Among the highlights of her busy and successful career have been the choreography for the movie Alfie, with Sienna Miller and Jude Law, and Honey with Jessica Alba and Li’l Romero. For three seasons from 2005 Gibson was on-air choreographer of MTV’s hit show Making the Band; she is currently heading “The Pulse,” a multi-city dance tour/seminar organized by Broadway Dance Center, featuring a three-day intensive dance course taught by Gibson herself and other highly accredited BDC instructors. As well as wearing Frontline at all her regular appearances with The Pulse and elsewhere, Gibson will also participate in a range of Capezio events throughout 2008 at which fans will have the opportunity to meet her and learn about the season’s new styles.
Last year Capezio celebrated its 120th anniversary since its foundation as a cobbler’s shop across from the Metropolitan Opera. Over the years the company has expanded its product line to meet the demands of contemporary consumers, introducing new colors, silhouettes and ever-improving technology to a full range of dance shoes, as well as clothing for activities related to dance such as gymnastics, yoga, skating and Pilates. Capezio dancewear always includes the essential basics, but nowadays it’s so much more, with everything a dancer needs: separates, cover-ups, special layering pieces, undergarments—even great dance bags to carry it all from studio to performance to the street. Capezio operates retail stores carrying the full lines of all its brands in New York City (three stores including its 51st Street and Broadway FLAGSHIP STORE), Hollywood, Dallas, Cleveland, Boston, Austin and Las Vegas. An outlet store has recently opened on 57th Street and Broadway in Manhattan. Dancers can also find Capezio products in fine specialty stores nationwide, and can buy them online, with a generous no-question asked return policy, at www.capeziodance.com.
