Rising Stars

March 2005 - Alex FetbrothHome: Woburn, MA Hello, my name is Alex Fetbroth from Woburn, Massachusetts and dance is literally my life. Growing up, I had a father who was little bit older than most dads so I watched a lot of Fred Astaire, Sammy Davis Jr., and Gene Kelly. I always loved watching them because of their smoothness and stage presence. However, the day I discovered Michael Jackson is the day that probably changed my life forever. I could never get enough of seeing him perform. I always tried moon-walking and falling on my face at the age of 4. When I turned 7 years old, my mom had heard about a dance studio in our city that was known to be very good and asked me if I wanted to try it out. Right away I said yes, and I haven't turned back ever since. I now take jazz, tap, hip-hop, ballet, modern, Irish step, acro, and lyrical. I dance 6 days a week and sometimes 7 for about an average of 5 hours a day. I have never been sick of it. Although I love all the styles of dance, my favorite and my specialty would have to be hip hop. I would consider it to be the style that comes most natural to me. This past October, I recently went to the Bremen Hip Hop Days World Championships in Bremen, Germany and came in 3rd out of 100 kids around the world in a male juniors freestyle competition. I'm the youngest teacher at my dance studio where I teach regular season recital classes and competition pieces in hip hop. I am also very associated with the great choreographer, dancer, and friend George "Geo" Hubela. I have taken many classes at conventions from choreographers like him, Brian Friedman, Dave Scott, Napolean and Tabitha D'umo, Roger Lee, Marty, Rhapsody, Jerry Slater, and others. Recently, I just choreographed my first hip hop group dance at the Headliners Competition where I was the youngest choreographer and it received a gold and was nominated to the World Hip Hop Championships in Germany. My solo that I had choreographed as well received a gold, was nominated for Germany, and I won title as Mr. Teen Headliner. I love hip-hop and dance all together. It's kept me out of trouble and made me a better person. I hope to one day own my own dance company and become a professional choreographer/dancer like Geo and Dave, and get to choreograph tours, shows, and conventions, and many other things. I love dance with all my heart and I want to continue doing it for the rest of my life. |
