Austin Ice Bats "Bat Girls"

The Ice Bats debuted their new dance team, the Bat Girls, October 18th, 2003. This talented group of girls performed thrilling jazz and hip-hop style dance routines ON THE ICE! The Bat Girls weren't wearing ice skates. Instead, they eloquently performed kicks, leaps and even turns on the ice wearing black sneakers! Ice Bat's fans were amazed at this talented group of dancers who seem to defy the laws of physics and perform flawless dance routines on ice!

What the fans didn't know was the Bat Girls had a secret. The simple black sneakers these girls were wearing were actually specially made to grip the ice. The Bat Girls were wearing Broomball shoes. Broomball, a relatively unknown sport in the United States, is played on an ice rink in sneakers instead of skates. The object of the game is to score more goals than the opposition. A small ball is propelled around the rink with a paddle shaped stick. Specially designed Broomball shoes which have about an inch of soft rubber on their sole are the basis for the unique traction on the ice.

The Bat Girls not only entertain Ice Bat's audiences, but are also committed to serving the community by volunteerism and participation in community service projects. Recently, the Bat Girls teamed up with the Girl Scouts to help sell cookies. The event started out with a pot-luck "meet-and-greet" lunch in which the girls got acquainted and exchanged funny stories about each other. After lunch the Bat Girls performed a dance routine, and then sang along with the Girl Scouts as they chanted out silly songs they had memorized. The day ended with the big cookie-selling event and was extremely profitable and rewarding for both groups of girls.

The Bat Girls are a skilled and talented group of girls who fearlessly perform daring routines on the ice.
