Anna Courter

Anna Jean Courter was born on August 22, 1983 in Traverse City, Michigan. At the age of five she began taking ballet, jazz, tap and modern at The Dance Company in St. Augustine, Florida. She continued attending classes in St. Augustine for thirteen years and also went to the Douglas Anderson School for the Arts, a magnet arts high school in Jacksonville, Florida.

After graduation in 2001 she moved to Miami, Florida where she attended New World School of the Arts College on a full scholarship awarded to her at the Florida High School Dance Festival. In January of 2002, Anna got the opportunity to work with and take classes from New York City based Urban Ballet Theater. Since then she has frequently traveled from Miami to New York City to work with the contemporary company.

While living in Miami she was able to teach ballet, jazz and tap at several dance schools and also frequently return to St. Augustine as a guest teacher for The Dance Company. Anna was able to explore her choreographic skills at the New World School of the Arts, where students are given the chance to and encouraged to choreograph works and present them in the New World Dance Theater.

In 2004 she got the opportunity to do her first photo shoot with Capezio and was also featured in the July/August 2004 issue of the Dance Spirit Magazine. Anna graduated with a B.F.A. in Dance from the New World School of the Arts in April this year and is moving to New York City at the end of the summer to continue working with Urban Ballet Theater.
